Biodiversity Hack at The Natural History Museum

Biodiversity indicators and models are a powerful way to monitor and understand human impacts on wildlife, and there are numerous different biodiversity indices that attempt to track populations over time, and project into the future. One thing the models have in common is that they can only produce meaningful results if they are provided with accurate, up-to-date information. Current methods for extracting data can be arduous; streamlined processes for identifying potential data resources and mining data will help improve the accuracy of biodiversity models.

BiodiversityHackPosterIn this hackathon, we will be developing new tools and techniques to streamline data mining for biodiversity indices like PREDICTS and the Living Planet Index (LPI). We’re looking for conservationists, ecologists, software developers, programmers, & anybody with a passion for technology and nature, to help us develop new ways to identify key resources for data mining and provide more rapid, up-to-date data for biodiversity indices.

The event will be hosted at the Natural History Museum on the 20th June – you can book your FREE place by clicking here.

We hope you’ll be able to come along on the 20th June 2015 and help us hack for biodiversity!
